Default Sabbath

Under the new covenant are we require to keep the Sabbath?
If we don't keep the Sabbath what is our punishment?
What day does the Sabbath fall on?

Gen.2
[2] And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
[3] And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Lev.23
[3] Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.

So we know for a fact the day God set aside as the Sabbath is the 7th day. Let's find if there are any other days God said is a Sabbath;

[5] In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD's passover.

So the 14th day of the first month, according to God's calander is God's Passover feast. But what about the next day? Let's read;

[6] And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.
[7] In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

So the day AFTER the Passover is ALWAYS a Sabbath. It does not matter what day it falls on. So here the Sabbath is a DAY, NOT a date. Let's read more;

[8] But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

So the last DAY, of the 7 day feast, is also a Sabbath. Once again it is the DAY, NOT a date. Let's continue;

[16] Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.

So the 50th day after seven Sabbaths, or the Day of Pentecost shall be a Sabbath, let's confirm;

[21] And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.

Notice any day we are not to do work is a Sabbath, according to the creator of the Sabbath. Let's continue;

[24] Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.
[25] Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

So in the 7th month, on the 1st day of the month, is a Sabbath. The Blowing of the Trumpets.

[27] Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
[28] And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.

And we have another Sabbath on the 10th day of the 7th month.

[34] Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD.
[35] On the first day shall be an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
[36] Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a solemn assembly; and ye shall do no servile work therein.

And here we have 2 more Sabbaths; one on the 15th day of the 7th month. The first day of the Feast of Tabernacles. And one on last day of the Feast of Tabernacles, the 8th day.

So along with God's 7th day Sabbath He also gives us 7 additional Sabbaths to be observed throughout the year. God sure does want us to remember something.

Now these are the ONLY Sabbaths given to us by God. So if anyone speaks of a Sabbath it can ONLY be THESE!

Now let's read some more of what God's word says about HIS HOLY DAY;

Isa.56
[2] Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
[6] Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
[7] Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.

Mark 2
[27] And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

So God's Sabbath is for ALL men.

Now let's read a scripture that many use to say ANY day can now be considered a Sabbath. But let's not forget, the ONLY Sabbaths given to us by the creator of the Sabbath are the weekly 7th day Sabbaths and the 7 yearly Sabbaths. NO OTHERS WERE GIVEN BY GOD!

Col.2
[16] Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Now what Sabbath days are we not to let men judge us by? THE ONLY ONES GIVEN TO US BY GOD!

God NEVER said WE could choose the day to serve Him. He has already done that for us. This verse is NOT saying we can disreguard the days God gave us as Sabbaths. It is simply saying that, of the days God gave us for Sabbaths, none is above the other and not to be bothered if someone says otherwise. They are ALL the same and ALL just as important. As are holy days and new moons (the moon is what is used to determine the beginning of the month, thus establishing the day for the yearly Sabbaths)

As far as will we be punished if we do not keep it.....well I know of some that will. Let's read it;

Zech.14
[16] And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.
[18] And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
[19] This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

So YES! There will some that WILL be punished for NOT keeping God's Sabbath.

Nice post,

On the seventh day of creation, God rested from all the work of the previous six days of creation (See the Book of Genesis). The Torah tells the Jewish people that they also should rest on the seventh day.
In Judaism, days are counted from sunset on one day until sunset on the next day. So the seventh day of creation corresponds to sunset on Friday evening to sunset on Saturday evening.

The 4th commandment states that no-one shall work on the sabbath. (Exodus 20:8-9)

Exodus 31:15 goes on to say that anyone working on the sabbath must be put to death.

Was this law annulled?.

Which is why I devote more time to the forum on Saturdays, God's Sabbath, sun down to sun down.

As far as this law being annulled, let's read what God's holy word says;

Lev.23
[2] Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.

So these are the feast of the Lord.

[4] These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.

These feast are ONLY to be done in the season God set forth.

[14] And ye shall eat neither bread, nor parched corn, nor green ears, until the selfsame day that ye have brought an offering unto your God: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
[21] And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.
[31] Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
[41] And ye shall keep it a feast unto the LORD seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month.

And they are to be done FOR EVER!!!!

Exodus 31:15 goes on to say that anyone working on the sabbath must be put to death.

Is this law annulled?

Can one lose their salvation if they don't keep the Sabbath?

There are two kinds of commands in the Law. There are universal standards of right and wrong which apply to everyone at all times and there are some which were given only to Israel as a sign of her covenant with God and which we are no longer required to obey. Some commands of the second kind include circumcision, sacrificing of animals, and dietary laws. We need to see which category the command to observe the Sabbath is in.

The command to keep the Sabbath was one of the ten commandments and all of the other nine are definitely universal moral laws so at first it would seem that this is true of the Sabbath laws too. But Deuteronomy 5:15 tells us the reason for the Sabbath: "You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day." This seems to indicate that the Sabbath was intended only for Israel.

The New Testament confirms that we are no longer required to keep the Sabbath. "Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food or drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ. (Colossians 2:16,17).

Let's read if God's holy word says His laws were ONLY for the nation of Israel;

Exod.12
[49] One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.

Num.15
[16] One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you.
[29] Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them.

Isa.56
[2] Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
[6] Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;

At least all men that desire to serve the true and living God.

At that time Jehovah the Son of God was leading his peolpe fist before there was no jews and those Laws where spiritual and are the same as the witten
law given to Moses because they did transgress those laws.
Therefore the LORD your God commanded you to kep the Sabbath day." This seems to indicate that the Sabbath was intended only for Israel.
Sorry ha been from the creation of the world not for the Jews but for mankind

The New Testament confirms that we are no longer required to keep the Sabbath.
